People were accustomed to two kinds of casualties. The first was a car bomb explosion in a turbulent country (e.g. fghanistan), and the second was a coal mine accident in China.
Due to the lack of advanced gas (methane) detection equipment, gas explosions frequently occurred in the depths of the coal mines, and the death toll usually exceeded 100 people.
The coal mine accident which impressed us the most was the disaster in Fuxin City, Liaoning Province in 2005. At least 200 coal miners died. The incident shocked the whole country.
After 2010, the government coercively closed many private small coal mines, coal mine accidents became fewer and fewer. I haven't heard such a tragedy for a long time.
