There is a famous saying by Lin Zexu (林则徐, a politician in Qing Dynasty) - yourongnaida wuyuzegang (有容乃大无欲则刚). Since then on, until today, it has been the motto of Chinese people.

The meaning of these 8 Chinese character is: a tolerant person will not have too much worries, and a person who does not have excessive mundane desires will not have too much troubles.

The saying is also my motto. Inside my company, I never want to be a party member or an official, I never have careerist desires, so I am never a competitor to any ambitious colleague.

In China, when you use this saying as your motto, you will find that everyone around you will be your friends, because they know that you will not be a potential adversary to them.
