On February 1, 2003, when returning to earth, US space shuttle Columbia broke apart over northern Texas, leaving a long white strip of wreckage in the sky, and killing all 7 astronauts.

In sharp contrast to the grief of American people, most Chinese people were gladly gloating, and some radical university students even held celebration activities in their campuses.
