Falun Gong (法轮功, FLG) is a new religious movement similar to Buddhism. It was founded by Li Hongzhi (李洪志) in 1990s. The main practice of FLG followers is cross-legged sitting and meditation.

The government initially believed that this motionless practice was beneficial to people's mental health and didn't harass tens of millions of FLG followers until the morning of April 25, 1999.

In this morning, tens of thousands of FLG followers peacefully surrounded the compound of the party's central committee and demanded the release of their 45 comrades who were arrested in another city.

The efficient organization and mobilization capability of FLG really scared the party. After this morning, FLG suddenly became the party's biggest domestic enemy, and Mr. Li fled to the United States.
