In the early morning of September 12, 2001 (Beijing time), my wife suddenly woke me up and said loudly: "Watch TV! Watch TV! Someone bombed the United States!"


Half asleep and half awake, I replied dazedly: "Impossible! No one in the world dared to bomb the United States." But when I saw TV screen, I believed it was true.


Due to the long-term anti-American brainwash by the party, most people were gloating about the 9/11 incident, and university students even celebrated in campus.


A small number of people, especially the intellectuals who often listened to the Voice of America, showed sympathy to the victims. My feeling was only one word -- unbelievable!
